GUWAHATI:
Lieutenant Gen KC Panchanathan, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 101 Area, Shillong, was cremated with full military honours at the Happy Valley Crematorium, Shillong on December 8.
Lt Gen Panchanathan died due to a cardiac arrest on Tuesday night. He was 57.
Lt Gen Pachanathan was rushed to North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) following the heart attack.
The wreath-laying ceremony was attended by a large no of military, police, CAPF and civil officials who paid their last respects to the Late Lt General.
Wreath on behalf of the Meghalaya government was laid by Public Health Engineering Minister, Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar, and on behalf of the Assam government by Assam Environment and Forest Minister, Chandra Mohan Patowary. Wreaths were also laid on behalf of the Chief of the Army Staff and the Chief of the Air Staff.
General Officer Commanding in Chief (GOC-in-C) of Eastern Command, Lt Gen RP Kalita and Air Officer Commanding in Chief (AOC-in-C) of Eastern Air Command, Air Marshal SP Dharkar, were the senior most officers from army and air force who were present on the solemn occasion.
Director General Assam Rifles, Lt Gen PC Nair and senior officers from BSF,CRPF, Assam & Meghalaya Police and the IB also laid wreaths.
