Margaret Pathaw wins Gold in Arm Wrestling

The bronze medal in the same category was secured by Meghalaya’s Mylliem Umlong Khunsyiem Angel Mary.

Margaret Pathaw from Umsning, Meghalaya has won gold at the 43rd World Arm Wrestling Championship in Antalya, Turkey, after defeating her opponent Santos Anna from Brazil in the master women 60kg left-hand category. She is among nine other participants from Meghalaya competing in the World Championship.  The bronze medal in the same category was secured by Meghalaya’s Mylliem Umlong Khunsyiem Angel Mary.

“I am extremely delighted to extend my warmest congratulations to Ms Margaret Pathaw from Umsning, who won the Gold Medal in the “Master Women 60kg Left Hand” Category at the 43rd World Arm Wrestling Championship held in Antalya, Turkey. I also extend my heartiest congratulations to Mylliem Umlong Khunsyiem Angel Mary from Umlyngka, who bagged the Bronze Medal in the same category.” said Banteidor Lyngdoh, state sports minister on his social media handle.

“What is even more joyful is that Alexander Lyngdoh from Jaiñtia Hills, who though physically impaired, displayed great skill and strength, winning the Bronze Medal in the “Standing Men 80 kg Hearing Impaired” Category.” he added.

“On behalf of myself and my Sports Department, I wish to share the joy of millions of Meghalayans at this milestone that the three athletes out of total nine participants from Meghalaya have achieved for the State. They have proved that Meghalaya arm wrestlers are truly gifted and are a force to reckon with in the field of arm wrestling in the World.

“May they continue to achieve greater heights in the days to come. The Government will continue to extend all possible support to our aspiring and deserving sports persons of the State.” Banteidor added further.
