Mawbah fire incident: Bodies of two missing children recovered

The cause of the fire has been determined to be an electrical short circuit, the investigation is ongoing.

SHILLONG:

In the early hours of January 11, 2023, two children who were reported missing were found dead following an incident that occurred on January 10 at 7 pm. The incident, which affected five families in Mawbah, was caused by an electrical short circuit that led to a blast in two to three cylinders near the area. As per reports, six fire vehicles were employed to douse the fire.

Speaking to The Meghalayan, SP, East Khasi Hills district, Dr Raghavendra Kumar MG, confirmed that the deceased have been identified as a 4-year-old boy and a 6-year-old girl, both residents of Mawbah. A post-mortem examination was conducted on the bodies this morning.

Speaking on the incident, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said that the ex MLA Mohendro Rapsang has approached the Chief Minister, and the East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner about the tragic incident, and that the government will definitely provide assistance to the family members of the victims.
