Mawlai defeated Laitkor 2-1 in extra time in the Shillong Sports Association’s inaugural Women’s League final at Third Ground, Polo, on Friday
After an hour of normal time and an even fight between the two teams, the match finished at 0-0, however, all three goals of the thrilling contest were scored in extra time. Mawlai’s goals came from corner kick headers.
The first by Ibashisha Khongwet and the second by Bahunlang Synrem. Marbarin Nongrum took the corner kicks on both occasions.
If it meant the game was over, Ribahunshisha Kharshiing answered a minute later with a stunner of a long-range attempt that beat the goalie, giving Laitkor some hope of a comeback, though their efforts were eventually futile.
Mawlai got Rs 30,000 as champion prize money, while Laitkor received a sum of Rs 18,000 as runners-up.
