Meghalaya Director General of Police (DGP) Lajja Ram Bishnoi took a tour of Mawlai area on Wednesday evening.
He was seen interacting with residents of the area.
Bishnoi informed that during his interaction with the Mawlai residents, he found out that the area was by and large peaceful but they also resented the fact that there is menace of drug trafficking.
The DGP said that with the help of the people the police want to tackle this problem.
“Police alone cannot find all the solutions,” he said.
Bishnoi also said that the police sought the cooperation of the dorbar shnong in their endeavour to make Mawlai peaceful.
The DGP also said that in some localities of Mawlai, people come from rural areas for jobs and they indulge in substance abuse and drug trafficking.
According to him, he asked the dorbar shnong to interact with those who have fallen prey to drugs.
Bishnoi also added that every week the police plan to visit different localities and interact with all the dorbar shnongs.
“I will interact with the youths who are doing well in studies and sports so that they can join us in our endeavours and it can motivate others,” the DGP said.
Bishnoi added that he will concentrate on interacting with more citizens so that any misunderstanding and mistrust between the police and – public can be removed.
“My aim is to develop friendly rapport with the citizens here and take their help in policing so that crimes can be prevented,” he said.
