MBBS course at Dhubri Medical College likely this year

GUWAHATI:

MBBS courses at the Dhubri Medical College and Hospital will begin from this academic session as the National Medical Commission (NMC) has given its nod for it on Monday.

“Glad to share that the MBBS course of new Dhubri Medical College (9th medical college of Assam) under Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences with 100 seats has received the approval of Medical Assessment & Rating Board under the National Medical Commission,” Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said in a tweet.

“We have received the letter from NMC for beginning the MBBS course in Dhubri Medical College,” state health minister Keshab Mahanta said in a statement here on August 8.

A team of the Medical Assessment and Rating Board of NMC has already visited the construction site of Dhubri Medical College and Hospital before giving its permission for the commissioning of the medical college under Srimanta Sankardeva University of Health Science.

“The medical education in the state is further strengthened with the approval of Medical Assessment and Rating Board under @NMC_IND for 100 seats in the MBBS course of newly built Dhubri Medical College under Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences,” Mahanta said in a tweet.

Dhubri Medical College will be the ninth medical college of the state. Earlier, the NMC has given its nod for 100 seats in Lakhimpur medical college on October 11, 2021.

The state has seven other medical colleges, Gauhati Medical College, Assam Medical College (Dibrugarh), Silchar Medical College, Barpeta Medical College, Jorhat Medical College and Diphu Medical College.

80 per cent works of construction of four other medical colleges in Kokrajhar, Nalbari, Nagaon and Tinsukia have been completed so far.

Initial works of construction of Biswanath and Chairaideo have already started.

The construction of Bongaigaon, Tamulpur, Golaghat, Dhemaji and Morigaon is also going on.

In addition to this, another medical college will also be set up in Kalapar in Guwahati.

Once these medical colleges become operational, the state will have a total of 23 medical colleges.
