Nongpoh:

In view of the upcoming polls in the state, the District Election Officer of Ri Bhoi, Arpit Upadhayay announced that the model code of conduct (MCC) has been enforced strictly in Ri Bhoi.

Upadhaya said there is a change this year for senior citizens and the differently able as they are categorised as absentee voters so that they can use the postal ballot.

Special training was also given to BLOs to ensure free, fair and an inclusive participation in the election.

He added that all sector officers, magistrate and returning officers have to take necessary steps to ensure that the model code of conduct is in force.

Meet with pol parties

He further informed that that district administration on Monday held a meeting with all the representatives of the political parties of Ri Bhoi district to inform them that they have to follow as per the provision of MCC especially for holding any election meeting and rally. Prior permission needs to be obtained from the office of the District Election Officer.

He further stated that as the border settlement is under way between Meghalaya and Assam there will be no change in the border villages. They can exercise their votes in the same polling stations and there will be no hindrance for casting their vote.
