In the letter to the chief minister, the MCCEU stated that the union’s executive committee held on March 30 resolved to urge the government to expeditiously implement their demands and alleviate the sufferings of the employees.

SHILLONG:

The Mawmluh Cherra Cements Employees Union (MCCEU) on Thursday submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, reminding the government of the pending demands since 2018.

In the letter to the chief minister, the MCCEU stated that the union’s executive committee held on March 30 resolved to urge the government to expeditiously implement their demands and alleviate the sufferings of the employees.

The union urged that the government should pay the employees’ normal salary as well as the pending dues till the plant resumes normal operation.

The union also asked the government to expedite the “speedy and normal running of the plant with upgradation” and the VRS/golden handshake scheme.

Meanwhile, MCCEU president Shanlang Diengdoh informed that the union wants the plant to be upgraded.

“We also want the plant to have a good production so that our rights and entitlements can be paid,” Diengdoh said.

Acknowledging that the government from time to time gives the employees financial assistance but it cannot cover all their expenses.

The MCCEU president said that if the issues in the MCCL are pending, there may come a time that the employees will face hardships.
