MDA government has failed state miserably: BJP

This came after more than 700 National People's Party leaders and supporters from Ranikor constituency joined the BJP at the state office.

SHILLONG:

The state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on January 30 alleged that the Conrad K Sangma-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government has failed the people of the state miserably.

This came after more than 700 National People’s Party (NPP) leaders and supporters from Ranikor constituency joined the BJP at the state office.

Speaking to reporters, BJP state vice-president Dipayan Chakraborty said, “Under the leadership of Pelcy Snaitang, they have joined the BJP. We welcome them and it is a great move because on the eve of elections when we are supposed to go for the nomination, the local committee was dissolved and there was mass resignation from NPP.”

He said every citizen has started to understand that the Conrad K Sangma-led government has failed miserably as people’s expectations have not been met in the last five years.

“After misrule of Mukul Sangma and Congress for the last 45 years, much expectation was from Conrad K Sangma because he was expected to be a dynamic and educated person but he has failed miserably. (His) downfall started and within a few days we will see that the NPP will be out of power,” Chakraborty said.

Asked as to when former Assembly Speaker and NPP candidate Martin M Danggo will join the BJP, the party leader said they are expecting to hear some good news from Ranikor within a day or two.

“We are hearing that he will be joining the party as most of his supporters have joined the BJP today. So we hope within a day or two we will hear some good news from Ranikor,” he said.

Choosing BJP

Stating that the country needs the leadership of the BJP, Chakraborty said, “Under the dynamic leadership of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the last 8 years, the country has started to move. Even neighbouring states like Assam are way ahead so we have to explain to the people why BJP and how we can deliver.”

He further claimed that more and more people are joining the BJP and said, “We are approaching everyone and every citizen of the state to join the party for the greater interest of the state…Today this Ranikor thing have happened and tomorrow you will see people from other constituencies have started to move and in democracy when people started to move that means it is finish.”

When reminded that BJP is also part and parcel of the MDA government, Chakraborty said that the party did try to correct the government in the cabinet as well as in the MDA meeting.

“But we have only 2 MLAs and we also have our own limitations but we have always tried (to correct the government). If they do not take our words then we have to go back to the people,” he said.

The BJP leader also said that the question of pulling out of the MDA government is a central affair because NPP is an NDA partner at the Centre.

BJP confident of winning

Expressing confidence that the BJP will lead the government after the elections, Chakraborty also maintained that the party will not need the NPP, if the party gets 30 seats.

“If BJP has 25, we are going to head the government. That is also a speculation. Let us see we are going to the people so the people are going to give their verdict. In politics today I cannot give this answer because it is after the people give their verdict that calculation starts. So we have to see for the better interest of the people. Once we go back to the people the people have to answer, if people give us 30 -31 seats so we don’t need NPP,” he said.
