MDA having sleepless nights over incomplete projects: Mukul Sangma

Sangma said that he was informed that the Ganol hydroelectric power project in Garo Hills has not yet been completed.

SHILLONG:

Leader of Opposition and former chief minister Mukul Sangma has slammed the National People’s Party (NPP)-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government for allegedly inaugurating incomplete projects including the Ganol hydroelectric power project in Garo Hills.

In an interview, Mukul said, “They (MDA) are having sleepless nights because they wanted to inaugurate incomplete projects.” He added that he was informed that the Garo hydro-electric power project has not yet been completed.

Furthermore, Sangma said the government has to look into aspects of safety audit before commissioning an infrastructure of a hydroelectric power project as there are different statutory bodies including the central electricity authority (CEA).

“There are numbers of procedures, SOPs, these are not something which somebody will tell so that whimsical spree of inaugurations…Are they in a hurry?,” he added.

Stating that he has no objection to any particular project being named after people, politicians or leaders of the past, the former chief minister said, “I have no objection, rather we have done it but when you already have a name given based on the due diligence and based on overall desires of the people then why do you change them.”

Referring to Dikki Bandi Stadium in Tura, he said the name was not given by Mukul Sangma but the name was given based on a suggestion from people.

Further, Mukul also alleged that the government had also inaugurated the SICPAC, which is also yet to be completed.

On Ampati stadium, the leader of the Opposition said that MDA did not bother to honour the PM since the project remains incomplete.
