MeECL employees hold meeting demanding release of salaries

The protesters had earlier asked for their salaries to be released within 48 hours and to make timely payments i.e., on the 10th of each month.

SHILLONG:

The Coordination Committee of Registered MeECL (Employees) Associations and Unions (CCORMAU), on January 16, decided to serve a week’s time to the Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) Sanjay Goyal to pay the salaries of the employees on time and to clear the remaining remuneration for the month of December 2022.

Members of CCORMAU had earlier organised a meeting in front of the headquarters of the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) at Lumjingshai demanding the authority to release their wages.

The union had earlier asked for their salaries to be released within 48 hours and to make timely payments i.e., on the 10th of each month.

Talking to reporters, the vice president of CCORMAU, Arju Dkhar, said that following the meeting with the CMD, they have agreed to allow the authorities to solve the issue within a week.

During the meeting, the members also highlighted the issues concerning the functioning of the corporation. loan garnered by MeECL over the years, amounting to Rs 2500 crore, revenue generation of MeECL, revenue leakages and others.
