Meet with Himanta likely on May 24: CM

Speaking to reporters after the Cabinet meeting, he said, “Both of us have agreed and things are being worked out for the meeting on May 24.''

SHILLONG:

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, on Wednesday, informed that a tentative meeting for the second phase of the border talks with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is expected to be held in Guwahati, on May 24.

Speaking to reporters after the Cabinet meeting on May 17, he said, “Both of us have agreed and things are being worked out for the meeting on May 24, post which we have already decided to visit both Block I and Block II areas to send a message of confidence, peace, and restraint among the people residing in border areas.”

Asked on the recent clash at Khanduli, the chief minister said that the administration has been told to show restraint to ensure the situation is not instigated further.

It may be mentioned that a clash broke out between two communities at Khanduli village in West Jaintia Hills district over restrictions to enter the Khanduli market recently. The residents have been opposing the setting up of a toll gate by officials of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council.
