Meghalaya gets its linguistic minority development forum

SHILLONG:

The Meghalaya Linguistic Minority Development Forum (MLMDF) was constituted in a meeting here, on March 20, and unanimously elected Sushit Kanti Choudhury as the forum’s president.

The central working body of MLMDF also elected Bishnu Choudhury as the general secretary of the forum. Both the president and general secretary will be supported by nine vice presidents and nine joint secretaries. While Dayanand Kumar Singh was elected as the treasurer, the advisory board is headed by Jagganath Koirala.

“The Meghalaya Linguistic Minority Development Forum aims to work for the welfare of the linguistic minorities as they have always been contributing for the overall development of the state in the best capacity possible,” Choudhury said, addressing the gathering.

The meeting was presided by Shiladitya Deb, chairman, the Linguistic Minority Development Board of Assam and Raktimava Swamy of Live and Let Live, an NGO in Assam, was the chief guest of the event.

The meeting was also attended by several executive members from linguistic minority communities along with other dignitaries from the state.
