SHILLONG:
A teenage girl from Nongpoh Marngar in Ri Bhoi district was found dead at the hostel of her college in Sikar town of Rajasthan under unexplained circumstances, on Friday.
The deceased has been identified as Walinda Binong.
Rubi Binong, the victim’s father, reportedly called the Meghalaya Police after getting a call from Mody University administration in Jaipur, Rajasthan; his daughter was a student of the School of Design of the university.
According to sources, the caller asked the girl’s father to get to Jaipur right away because his daughter’s health had worsened and she had been admitted to the Laxmangarh community health centre.
When he arrived at the institute on Friday around 7 pm, he was informed by the authorities that his daughter had passed away and her body was being kept in the mortuary of the community health centre.
He was also told by the authorities that the post-mortem would be completed by Saturday, as per reports.
Meanwhile, a case has been registered at Nongpoh Police Station under Section 174 CrPc and further investigation on the matter is ongoing.
In his complaint to the Nongpoh Police Station on Saturday, the deceased’s cousin, Womingstar Binong, said professors at the institute told her father that she had consumed poison and thereafter hanged herself.
Womingstar said that his cousin had returned to the college on March 20 after spending about a week at home as her mother was sick. Ever since they were in touch and everything was normal.
Her father refused to believe that she had committed suicide because she was a strong person and wouldn’t take such a step.
