SHILLONG:

The Government of Meghalaya has hiked the Dearness Allowance (DA) by 3% from existing 36% to 39% for 55,000 government employees in the state ahead of Christmas.

The decision also follows an early release of salary for the month of December 2023.

Taking to X on December 20, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma announced the early release of the salary and increase in DA, saying, “Merry Christmas to our team of 55,000 government employees! We are pleased to announce that December salaries are being released early. Further DA hike of 3% has been approved.”

A circular from the government said that the enhanced DA will directly benefit a vast number of government employees, providing them with additional financial support to cope with the challenges posed by inflation and the increasing cost of living.

It also said that the government recognises the invaluable contributions of its workforce and is committed to fostering a positive and supportive environment.

By taking this step, the government aims to boost the morale and financial well-being of its employees, reinforcing their role as crucial contributors to the state’s progress.
