Meghalaya Govt to ensure documents issued by Councils are accepted by banks and others

Shillong, Mar 7: Deputy Chief Minister incharge District Council Affairs Prestone Tynsong on Wednesday informed that a committee has been constituted to study and revisit the Indian Registration Act and to ensure documents issued by the three autonomous district councils (ADCs) are accepted by concerned authorities including financial institutions.

Tynsong said that the district council had passed the Land Bill and now it has become an Act.

“So we discuss the registration as right now we being the state government, we have to follow the Indian Registration Act strictly. What happened was half way when we followed this IRA, we found out that certain hurdles are there. Sometimes when people approach district councils to issue land holding certificates or NOC for maybe availing loan or for any other purposes then they produce that documents in their respective financial institutions, some financial institutions they did not even recognize that documents issued by the ADCs,” he said.

“Therefore, we discussed all details and again we decided to have a separate committee to again revisit and study the present form of the IRA and also to make sure that the documents issued by the three ADCs should also be accepted by any concerned authorities including the financial institutions,” Tynsong informed.
