TURA:
Controversy is being created over the arrest of three persons from a Garo village in West Khasi Hills district who were taken into custody on July 9 by Assam police from Boko police station with some groups alleging that it was a fallout of the ongoing border dispute between the two states.
Reports have indicated that three men from Tarabari village were arrested after they were spotted at Boko market in Kamrup district, bordering West Khasi Hills. However, the allegations have been disputed with police from north Garo Hills confirming that an arrest took place of some West Khasi Hills citizens for the assault of a man from neighbouring Assam.
“The incident was between two families over construction of a culvert. Both accused and victim are Garos. Since the case is in Assam the accused were taken into custody in that state, which is normally done,” informed North Garo Hills SP AT Sangma.
He cited the latest example of the detention of a juvenile boy from Assam who has been brought to North Garo Hills and lodged inside a boys home for a case involving a victim from Garo Hills.
The accused juvenile had reportedly uploaded intimate pictures of his ex-girlfriend from Garo Hills on social media leading to the filing of the case in North Garo Hills district.
