Meghalaya police cautions recruits against touts as recruitment drive gets underway

Shillong, March 06: Having come across multiple cases of innocent candidates applying for recruitment in police falling prey to dubious people promising false jobs in return for huge sums of money in the past, the Central Recruitment Board (CRB) of the Meghalaya Police has cautioned candidates who are applying for the 2,968 vacancies advertised in the police department.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and member of the Central Recruitment Board, Davis Marak, cautioned that with recruitments underway touts and other dubious people will raise their ugly head and approach unsuspecting candidates with claims of being a part of the recruitment board or the Meghalaya police giving false assurances that they will help the candidates in clearing these exams, either in the Physical Efficiency Test (PET) or the written exams or even in the interview.

“I would like to say on behalf of the board that all the candidates should not respond to such comments or such people because these are all fake. As far as CRB is concerned, there will be transparency in each stage of the recruitment. We will not allow such kind of people to take advantage,” warned Marak.

He said that touts and criminals target those vulnerable and gullible knowing their desperation for jobs which leads to many taking the desperate step of paying up huge sums of money only to realise later that they have been duped losing out on jobs and their hard earned money.

Recalling one or two such cases in the past, Marak said that in the last recruitment also there had been such instances leading to criminal cases being registered against some people with even arrests being made.

“So, it is our appeal that please do not listen to such touts and please believe in yourself and believe in the transparent recruitment process that Meghalaya police will be conducting,” urged the CRB member.

Furthermore, Chairman of CRB, Francis G Kharshiing emphasised that concerning the recruitment they have put in place the Superintendent of Police (SPs) and commandants, who will be part of the main process. “To avoid any doubts I request any candidate who has difficulty in accessing the computer or the Internet, to please visit any SPs office or a commandants office and they will be helping you to upload . Please do not rely on any particular person who will ask you for certain money,” said Kharshiing.

He further urged the candidates not to entertain such people who will cheat them for monetary gains.

The CRB has requested anyone with doubts to contact the helpline number during office hours from 10 am to 5 pm – 6033164273. The email address has also been provided which is
[email protected]

It maybe mentioned that this will be one of the biggest recruitment carried out by the Meghalaya police. The last recruitment was carried out in 2019 and completed recently. The delay was caused due to a court cases and COVID -19.

Since the police department has a shortage of manpower, this recruitment will fill up the vacancies but it will take two years till it fully addresses the manpower deficit.
