Meghalaya State League kicks off in Jowai

Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Shakliar Warjri and local MLA Wailadmiki Shylla attended the opening ceremony as chief guests and guests of honour, respectively.

JOWAI:

The Meghalaya State League (MSL), one of the biggest football matches in the state organised by the Meghalaya Football Association (MFA), kicked off at U Kiang Nangbah Stadium in Jowai on May 12.

Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Shakliar Warjri and local MLA Wailadmiki Shylla attended the opening ceremony as chief guests and guests of honour, respectively.

Alwin Sawkmie, the Mawkyrwat MDC, and the MFA and WJDSA office bearers were also present at the occasion. Speaking at the event, Warjri gave the WJDSA his word that he would follow through on the Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar’s pledge of Rs. 25 crore for the development of the Kiang Nangbah Stadium.

The Rangdajied UTD FC and the 7 (Yniaw) Wasa United competed in the first game. Rangdajied UTD. FC defeated 7-Wasa by a score of 2-0. The state’s sports organisations were also honoured by Warjri for their efforts to promote sports in the region, especially football, where he felt the standard of play had increased compared to earlier years.

 

“I believe the time will come when our teams from Meghalaya will represent the state and the country in the field of football”, Warjri said.

25 teams will compete in the MSL, with games taking place in Tura, Mawkyrwat, Shillong, and Jowai.
