SHILLONG:
Students of Mahatma Gandhi University (MGU) along with teachers and members of the Khasi Students’ Union-Education Cell of North Khasi Hills District Unit, held a protest at the university’s campus on May 11 against the authorities over several issues.
Protesting groups also locked the main gate to prevent the vice chancellor from leaving the campus.
The vice chancellor was reportedly locked inside his room after he refused to come out of his room to meet the agitating groups.
The protest was held because of lack of faculty members in the university. According to then, there is only one or two teachers in each department. Furthermore, they alleged that the library is an empty room without any books.
Furthermore, they alleged that fines are always imposed on students without proper justifications, besides random termination of teachers who raised their voices, among others.
