Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh’s house ‘attacked’, one held

Lyngdoh claimed she was attacked by a man who was holding a machete (waitbnoh) on July 11 around 7.30 pm at her residence in Laitumkhrah when she, along with her husband, son and driver were out looking for someone who had pelted stones at her house, just minutes before she was 'attacked'.

SHILLONG:

Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh, on July 11, escaped a mishap after she was reportedly attacked by an armed man, who she claimed had earlier attempted to attack her before elections.

Lyngdoh claimed she was attacked by a man who was holding a machete (waitbnoh) on July 11 around 7.30 pm at her residence in Laitumkhrah when she, along with her husband, son and driver were out looking for someone who had pelted stones at her house, just minutes before she was ‘attacked’.

“I had just finished zoom meeting with farmers.l when I heard crashing sound towards my bedroom. I asked my people what happened but by the time, we rushed to my bedroom, my daughter’s room was attacked.

By the time we figured that out, stones were pelted at the window panes and we all rushed out to see what happened,” the minister explained.

As they rushed outside, two students shouted and pointed towards the direction the miscreant had fled.

“I went out; my husband, my son and driver went in different directions because they saw the person in the CCTV. While they were looking, suddenly the person came and attacked me; I screamed and my husband and son came running back. He was holding a machete in his hand and that was when and husband said, ‘he’s got a huge khasi knife’. Somehow, my husband managed to pin him down,” a shaken Lyngdoh narrated.

When stones were pelted at her house, Lyngdoh had already contacted the Superintendent of Police and by the time, the attack on Lyngdoh happened, the cops arrived at her residence.

“I was too shocked to know he had a weapon,” she added.

Shocked and shaken by the incident, Lyngdoh, however, said, “There are some people who will do anything, even harm me. But I want to tell them that I am not afraid and I will continue to work hard, will continue to be the voice of the people. It’s about some people not liking me.”

She further claimed the same person had attacked her before elections. “I wish I had taken that attack once seriously but then, I felt we shouldn’t make enemies and let the matter go,” she added.

Meanwhile, the person has been identified as Teibor Lyting of Kharmalki, Malki and has been appended by the police.
