Mising Students Union calls on KSU for peace talks following communal conflict in Khanapara

In this regard, a peace meeting was also held at Khanapara on August 23 to resolve the matter between the two groups from Assam and Meghalaya.

KHANAPARA:

Days after a fight ensued between two groups in Khanapara resulting in escalation of tension at the border areas of Meghalaya and Assam, the Mising Students Union has sent a letter to the Khasi Student Union (KSU), Khanapara, proposing peace talks to resolve the ongoing conflict and restore peace in the area.

In this regard, a peace meeting was also held at Khanapara on August 23 to resolve the matter between the two groups from Assam and Meghalaya.

The meeting was attended by the Headman, representatives of HNYF Northern Zone, KSU Baridua Circle, TMPK (All Missing Students Union (Khanapara), with the organisation’s Secretary, Rajiv Pegu, representing TMPK.

However, the instigators of the initial conflict did not attend the meeting, and the Dorbar Village decided to set another day for conflict resolution.

During the meeting, it was clearly emphasized that the presence of those responsible for the initial disturbances was crucial for the success of the peace talks.

According to reports, the altercation, fuelled by intoxication, resulted in injuries to several individuals, and has compromised the safety of the public in the area due to the animosity between the involved parties.
