AIZAWL:
Mizoram is set to become the first state in the Northeast to have a motorsports racing track as the government inked an agreement for its construction with a public infrastructure finance company, at Lengpui near Aizawl on February 18.
Informing the same, Mizoram sports minister Robert Romawia Royte, who is in New Delhi, said that Mizoram State Sports Council (MSSC) and REC Limited, a Navratna Enterprise under the Ministry of Power, signed an agreement to build the track.
He said the REC has committed financial assistance of about ₹7.50 crores under its CSR initiative for the project.
“This will be the first and only race track in the Northeast and it will host international events in the future,” he said.
The work under the project includes construction of 2 km long and 6-metre wide race track, a two-storey building as well as a sports complex with facilities such as administrative building and dressing rooms, conference hall, medical room, official room, cafeteria, VIP room and equipment room. The race track will also have spectator galleries and parking areas along with safety and security fencing, among others.
