Mock-drill conducted at LGBI Airport on disaster management

Several organizations like CISF, Assam Police, and Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) also participated in the programme.

GUWAHATI:

National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has conducted a three-day long basic training session on chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear materials (CBRN) at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBIA) at Borjhar as a part of handling the emergency at the airport and the state.

The session was hosted by Guwahati International Airport Limited (GIAL), the airport operator of LGBI airport.

“It is expected that the commencement will enhance the preparedness of airport emergency handling to respond to CBRN emergencies, encompassing threats emanating from the use of chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear materials at the airport,” GIAL spokesperson Ruma Devi Keot said in a statement.

Several organizations like CISF, Assam Police, and Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) also participated in the programme. Theoretical sessions and a mock-drill exercise are conducted by veterans and experts in the training.

Apart from imparting the knowledge and skill for handling CBRN emergencies, the training programme also aimed at sharing necessary knowledge for providing first aid and initial psycho-social support to the victims.

Around 50 personnel participated in the session. The programme was inaugurated by ASDMA deputy CEO Chonmoy Nath by lighting the lamp.

Airport Authority of India (AAI)’s regional executive director Sanmukh Jugani, chief airport officer Utpal Baruah, and commandant of 1st BN NDRF Sujay Kumar Ghosh were also present in the inaugural function.
