More flights to Umroi airport with opening of new taxiway and parking bay

Shillong, Feb 22: A significant milestone in the aviation chapter of the state was made on Thursday by the Airports Authority of India when Umroi airport of Shillong opened a new taxiway and parking bays to provide accommodation for more flights from Alliance Air and Indigo Airlines giving a boost to air travel.

To add to the development story, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma took to Twitter to announce new projects to enhance transportation infrastructure, including a new road project connecting Shillong and Umroi, aimed at reducing congestion on the Umiam bridge.

Spearheaded by Mawlai MDC Teiborlang Pathaw, the project received sanction under the North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme, promising expedited travel and reduced traffic pressure.

Additionally, the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region sanctions another infrastructure project linking Agia to Medhipara, Phulbari, and Tura, he informed.
