Mukul holds govt guilty of multiple failures

Referring to the border dispute, Sangma said the government wants to solve the problem by giving state’s land to Assam.

SHILLONG:

Leader of Opposition Mukul Sangma, on September 24, accused the National People’s Party-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government of multiple failures in the employment sector.

“People confront us as to why schools are closed. Why have teachers not been appointed in lower primary schools? Why are children being deprived of their right to education?” Sangma said.

He was addressing an AITC meeting to welcome former Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) leader Sounder S Cajee along with over 8,000 mass supporters at Mawkyrwat, the district headquarters of South West Khasi Hills.

Speaking of ASHA and Anganwadi workers, he said the doors have been shut for opportunities and they have the same questions.  He said people with disabilities are questioning as to why the welfare and assistance schemes are no longer extended to the vulnerable groups.

Referring to the border dispute, Sangma said the government wants to solve the problem by giving state’s land to Assam.

Condemning the MDA government’s sheer undemocratic approach in terms of governance, Sangma said, “The government is formed to serve the people yet the people have to fight against their own government to survive.”

In his speech, Cajee said that the Trinamool Congress is the largest opposition party in the state.

He added, “We want TMC to secure victory for the sake of the people of Meghalaya so that they can raise their voices. We do not want NPP, KHNAM, or UDP. We do not want BJP to lead Meghalaya. We want TMC, the second largest party in Meghalaya, which has worked for the masses and the downtrodden people.”
