The East Khasi Hills district president of United Democratic Party (UDP) Titosstarwell Chyne informed on March 1 that the UDP Sohiong circle has proposed the name of HDR Lyngdoh’s nephew Synshar Lyngdoh as party candidate for the Sohiong seat.
He said, “On the part of the Sohiong circle of the UDP, I have received a letter from them yesterday where they have proposed the name of Synshar Lyngdoh, nephew of Maheh (HDR Lyngdoh).”
Stating that there are procedures involved, he said that the UDP circle will inform the state election committee which will take the final decision.
Election to the seat could not be held along others on February 27 following the demise of HDR on February 20.
Sohiong has 63 polling stations, and the date of election to the seat will be announced by the Election Commission later.
