KHLIEHRIAT: 

Residents of Narpuh Elaka in East Jaintia Hills district, on August 8, took out a protest rally against the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and the state government for their alleged failure to heed the demands to repair the deplorable condition of the National Highway-06.

Protesters, led by the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) Narpuh Circle and the headmen of the area under Narpuh Elaka, came out in large numbers with banners and placards, shouting slogans and condemning the “adamant attitude” of NHAI and the government.

Protesters bock the tollgate

The rally was held at Lumshnong Tollgate where agitated and angry residents were also seen blocking the road as a sign of discontentment.

The NH-06 is one of the important roads linking Meghalaya with other northeastern states including Mizoram, Tripura, North Manipur, and the Barak Valley of Assam.
