National tricolour unfurled in Bangla border for first time

The Republic Day celebrations which is usually held centrally at Dhubri town shifted to Satrasal village located along the Indo-Bangladesh border this time.

GUWAHATI:

For the first time, the national tricolour was unfurled at Satrasal village in Assam’s Dhubri district along the Indo-Bangla border on the occasion of the 74th Republic Day on January 26.

Assam minister for public health engineering and tourism Jayanta Mallabaruah unfurled the tricolour at the border village.

“It gives me immense pleasure to attend the Republic Day celebration as a chief guest and unfurl the tricolour at Satrasal, a village at the Indo-Bangladesh border of Dhubri District,” Maallabaruah said in a tweet after the event.

“On this auspicious occasion, I salute every one who is immensely working for the upliftment of our nation. This unique initiative to observe this day at this strategic location which is only 200 meters away from the barbed wires of the border will definitely raise the spirit of nationalism and patriotism amongst the residents of border areas of the country,” he tweeted.

In his address, the minister expressed his pride and happiness by unfurling the national flag at this historic location which carries the legacy of Srimanta Shankardeva and Bir Chilarai.

In his speech, Baruah deliberated upon various schemes and initiatives undertaken by both Central and state governments.

A cultural extravaganza along with the display of tableaus by various departments was followed by a parade led by Assam Police, paramilitary forces and NCC cadets.

After attending the Republic Day celebration, Baruah visited the 31 BOP located at Satrasal. He distributed sweets among the jawans and took part in the cultural performances showcased by the Bravehearts.

In his speech addressed to the jawans, the minister said that it is the jawans who keep us safe by protecting our borders as a guard wall. He later inspected the bordering areas along the fences and also offered his prayers at a temple located at no man’s land in front of Ramraikuti Border post.

The minister was accompanied by Dhubri deputy commissioner Dibakar Nath, superintendent of police Aparna Natrajan, 2nd in Command (admin), 31 BOP, Ram Pal Singh,

Golakganj MLA Abdus Sobahan Ali Sarkar and sattradhikar of Ramraikuti Sattra Jitendra Nath Pradhani and many other distinguished dignitaries.
