NCP high command’s tardiness on poll preparedness concerning: Saleng A Sangma

Saleng also informed that he is unaware if the party will put up candidates in all the 60 assembly seats, adding that he is trying to keep the NCP alive in Meghalaya.

SHILLONG:

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) state chief Saleng A Sangma, on January 18, expressed concern with the party high command’s slow response regarding preparation for the upcoming 2023 Assembly polls.

“I have been repeatedly telling them, but the response from Delhi is quite slow,” said the Gambegre legislator.

He further added, “Sharad Pawar and his team are busy with elections in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Goa. While they have given me the green signal to organise the block level committees, giving orders alone is not enough as organising a big party is a huge challenge, and I am totally alone.”

Saleng informed that he is unaware if the party will put up candidates in all the 60 assembly seats, adding that he is trying to keep the NCP alive in Meghalaya.

“I don’t doubt the party leadership, but it is human nature to jump to conclusions when the coordination is lacking. The leadership needs to be serious in their advice on how to prepare for the polls,” he said, adding that for the upcoming polls in the state, the party will devise its campaign around improving education, health and primary sectors such as mining, agriculture and fishing.

Brushing off speculations about him joining other political parties ahead of the polls, he emphasised that he works with principles and for him, people come first. “This is the reason I will remain with the NCP,” he said.
