SHILLONG:
The office of International Affairs (OIA), North Eastern Hills University (NEHU) organised a felicitation for 14 students of the masters programme selected under Indo-Japan Cultural exchange program for the year 2023.
In a nationwide search for eligible candidates, NEHU students could compete with rest of the country, and 14 of them were selected by an expert jury constituted by inter governmental body between Japan and India.
With the paradigm shift in Japan with New Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and his Team, North East of India was given a prominent place in this Annual Cultural Exchange Program.
While felicitating the Students, Prof. P.S. Shukla, Vice-Chancellor of NEHU stated that under the able leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a lot of initiatives are taken to enhance and expose the youth to the educational and Cultural Menu of other parts of the world.
The Vice Chancellor said, “Japan, being the most favoured Trade and Educational destination for India, opportunity given to students of NEHU shall go a long way in attracting Japanese Investment in North East India.”
Prof. Shukla further expressed his hope that the huge scale of Investment from Japan to North East India called for greater exposures to be given to students of NEHU.
He contended that, in the rapid growth of Indo-Japan relationship, NEHU can play a major role through its Student Ambassadors in bridging up a closer Indo-Japan ties in Trade, Technology, Higher Education and specifically in Japan’s sincere interest in the Human and natural habitats of North East India.
The whole program was organised by a three member Committee headed by Prof. Nirmalendu Saha, Dean, School of Life Sciences and Prof. Bhagirathi Panda, Honorary Director, Indian Council of Social Sciences and Research at NEHU.
The Office of International Affairs (OIA) acted as a coordinating body in the process of selection of Students of NEHU from both Shillong and Tura Campuses.
Exhorting the students, Prof. Saha emphasised on the learning process through which NEHU students should undergo during their visit to Japan.
Prof. Panda informed the house that there will be more opportunities for Ph.D Students as fresh competition is on the cards.
Students on their part expressed their happiness for an exposure to Japan in their early career and exuded the confidence that they will be able to turn their visit into a very productive outcome.
