The Meghalaya Weightlifting Association underwent a significant leadership reformation on November 4, 2023, marking the conclusion of their previous tenure spanning from 2018 to 2023. The association convened a meeting in Shillong to appoint new leaders, with the shared objective of advancing their mission to nurture young weightlifting talents.
The newly selected leaders of the Meghalaya Weightlifting Association consist of Donald Rymbai as President, Flanagan Kharwanlang as Vice President, and Batskhem Basaiawmoit as General Secretary, alongside other esteemed members and leaders.
Addressing the media, the newly appointed President, Donald Rymbai, expressed his sincere appreciation for the dedication and service of both the former and current leaders. He emphasized the association’s unwavering commitment to elevating the profile of this relatively lesser-known sport among the youth of the state.
Assuming his role as President, Donald Rymbai conveyed his eagerness to assemble a team of leaders dedicated to expanding the association’s footprint across various districts within the state. Their primary focus will be on scouting and welcoming gifted youth to engage in training programs, fostering a deep understanding of the sport.
Donald Rymbai also underscored the association’s achievements, notably their participation in the North East Games with support from the Meghalaya Olympic Committee, which resulted in three members securing bronze medals. This event illuminated the latent weightlifting talent residing within the youth of the state.
Furthermore, he extended a heartfelt invitation to passionate young individuals interested in weightlifting to join and support the association in various capacities. Simultaneously, the association is actively seeking endorsement and support from the state’s authorities to further propel the sport’s growth. Their shared aspiration is to provide talented young athletes with a platform to showcase their innate abilities on the global stage.
