One person lost his life in a road accident in Tura in the beginning of 2024 during a late hour collision involving a motorcycle, a goods laden truck and a car.

The incident took place at Babupara Dzc park area, opposite PWD office, around 2 am of January 2.

The victim Grandstone Marak of Dombagre Millim village was riding his two wheeler with a pillion rider towards DC office road and tried to overtake a cement laden truck on a turn.

He was reportedly speeding and failed to spot a car coming from the opposite direction leading to a head on collision.

The impact was so intense that he was flung from the motorcycle and landed under the rear wheels of the moving truck crushing him to death.

The victim was returning from a community dance venue in Tura.

His friend and pillion rider Keang Momin survived the accident with minor injuries.

Rash driving during Christmas and New Year celebrations, particularly during the late hours when many are out on the streets celebrating, is a common feature in Garo Hills.

Despite police patrolling and clampdowns, accidents have been taking place each year during the festive season.

This Christmas night was no different, except for the dwindling number of cases due to intense patrolling, as several accidents were reported from different parts of Tura and Garo Hills, including a collision between two cars outside the Tura Doordarshan complex and another on the New Tura road, close to the Sericulture office complex.
