NONGPOH:
The State’s Animal Husbandry & Veterinary department has not issued any advisory or warning against pork consumption despite the high-rise African Swine Flu (ASF) cases in pigs in some parts of the state.
The test results for African Swine Flu conducted by the Animal Health Centre, NERDDL, in Khanapara has shown positive results from different farms in Pynursla, Nongkasen, Umsawniang, and Ri Bhoi district.
Till date 40 pigs have died due to the disease in Ri Bhoi, putting pork eaters at risk.
Whereas in Manipur the government has issue an order to band supplies of pigs from outside the state.
It may be mentioned that elders have expressed grief concern over the adamant attitude of the department concerned for not taking the issue seriously as pigs are still being supplied to the state from outside.
On April 27, the Meghalaya Pig Farmer Association met A.L Hek to apprise him on the matter, however the matter has still not been looked into they said.
