Non-implementation of Roster system will be injustice to Garo community

The protesting groups were unanimous in their agreement that public awareness programmes are a must in the coming days to highlight the grievances related to the reservation policy and the implementation of the roster system.

As many as eight organisations from East Garo Hills that held a meeting in Williamnagar on Tuesday to discuss the Roster System on job reservation reiterated that failure to implement the court directive would be an “injustice” to the entire Garo community.

A combined meeting of social and student organisations of East Garo Hills, primarily the Garo Students Union, Federation for A’chik Freedom, All A’chik Youth Federation, WGCSU (Williamnagar Govt. College Students’ Union), WLCSU (Williamnagar Loyola College Students’ Union),  WATA (Williamnagar Auto Taxi Association),  Williamnagar Sumo Pick-Up and Tractor Associations discussed the controversy surrounding the roster System that has been asked by the High Court of Meghalaya to the Meghalaya government to implement to ensure equal share on the employment sector of the state.

During the meeting, leaders of the participating organisations deliberated on the crucial subject and put across their views and opinions.

These organisations expressed dismay over attempts to block the roster system stating that non-implementation of the same would be of great injustice to the Garo community that will lose the opportunity to regain what has been denied to the community for decades.
