Nongpoh Civil Hospital’s trauma centre functioning as Covid ward hence inoperative: Lahkmen Rymbui

Rymbui was replying to a query raised by Congress legislator from Nongpoh, Mayral Born Syiem in the Assembly, about why the centre has been lying inoperative despite it being located on the NH-40.

SHILLONG:

Cabinet minister Lahkmen Rymbui, on March 11, said that the trauma centre at the Nongpoh Civil Hospital is functioning as a Covid ward hence isn’t operational in its true capacity. It also houses a Covid laboratory, the cabinet minister further informed the House.

Rymbui was replying to a query raised by Congress legislator from Nongpoh, Mayral Born Syiem in the Assembly, about why the centre has been lying inoperative despite it being located on the National Highway-40, which witnesses regular accident cases. He urged the government to make it operational within a year.

In response, Rymbui said that, at present, the physical and financial progress of the work in the centre is 75 per cent complete and it has been taken up under the Central government scheme “Capacity Building for development Trauma Care Facility on National Highways”. “The government will try to make the trauma centre operational as soon as the work is completed,” he said.

Rymbui, however, said as the centre is functioning as a Covid ward, completion of the work will take some time. “Let us hope this phase of Covid is over so that work can be taken up in full swing,” he added.
