NONGPOH:
After an extensive effort spanning over 16 hours, the Nongpoh police station, in collaboration with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) staff, on November 5 successfully retrieved the body of a truck driver who had fallen into a gorge at Umling. The recovery operation was carried out in the presence of the deceased person’s family.
The incident occurred at around 9 p.m. on November 4, and the precise cause of the accident remains uncertain. However, some sources have suggested that overspeeding and the sharp curve of the road in this area may have contributed to the mishap. The truck involved in the incident bears the registration number AP 07 TM7649.
The handyman who was accompanying the truck was rescued with severe injuries shortly after the accident and was promptly transported to the Civil Hospital in Nongpoh for medical treatment.
The deceased individual has been identified as Jamal Mia, a 30-year-old resident of Barpeta, according to information provided by his family.
