TURA:
Senior NPP leader and North Tura legislator Thomas A Sangma have denied there have been any disparity or underdevelopment of his constituency that shares a border with South Tura.
Critics of Thomas Sangma have for long accused the MLA of failing to show any tangible results to developmental projects in a constituency that comprises one part urban and the other rural.
One of the showpieces of North Tura’s development is the impressive artificial turf football stadium at Chandmari, but that has been acknowledged by many to be a pet project of the chief minister.
Shortly after filing his nomination papers on Saturday before the returning officer in Tura DC office, the North Tura legislator spoke to waiting presspersons where he highlighted the works undertaken in his constituency in the last five years.
“Different constituencies have different issues and development wise I don’t think North Tura is lacking in anything. We have taken up several developmental projects in our constituency like the Tribal Research Institute in my constituency, and the Hunar Hub Medical Skill Development Centre coming up in Dumindikgre village of north Tura. There is no inequality or being behind in the sphere of development. We are also moving forward,” claims Thomas Sangma.
Interestingly, almost all projects mentioned by him are funded in majority by the Modi-led central government and were envisaged long back by the Late P A Sangma, founder of the NPP.
