NPP expecting ‘over 11 MLAs’

SHILLONG:

Over eleven sitting legislators, including from the opposition All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), are likely to join the ruling National People’s Party (NPP) ahead of the 2023 Assembly elections in the state.

“More than 11 sitting MLAs from different political parties have approached the NPP,” NPP leader and cabinet minister Sniawbhalang Dhar told reporters on Tuesday.
He , however, refused to reveal their names, but claimed that four to five MLAs are from the AITC.

He said he doubted that the 12 former Congress MLAs will contest on AITC ticket next year. “It is very doubtful, but since it is not my party I can’t say…the TMC president will be the right man to inform you about this,” he said.

Dhar further said that the people of the state seem not to be in favour of the AITC. “However election is still far away so let us see,” he said.
