National People’s Party (NPP) legislator from Nongstoin, Macmillan Byrsat has expressed confidence that he will come back after the 2023 Assembly polls.
Byrsat claimed that despite having very little time to prepare for the 2018 elections he won.
“This time is different. I have visited each village under Nongstoin constituency 15 times and I met people personally,” the Nongstoin MLA said.
The MLA claimed that he is one of the eminent persons in the constituency since he holds the post of Lyngdoh of Nongstoin Syiemship.
Byrsat said that in the upcoming 2023 assembly elections he is not fighting with any parties, but his fight is how to get the “support, love and confidence” of the people of the constituency.
He also claimed that in the last four and half years he has done many things for the constituency.
“If we compare during the previous years and today, we have done a lot for the people,” the MLA said.
He also said that in the 2023 polls the one thing that will give him an edge over the other candidates is his “performance”.
Byrsat stated that in the 2023 assembly polls the fight will be between NPP and the Congress in Nongstoin.
Asked if the allegations of corruption against the government will affect his prospect in 2023, he said those charges are unfounded and baseless.
The Nongstoin legislator said that these allegations made by the opposition are purely political.
“They are trying to find out some issues just to tarnish the image of the government. But in my consideration all the charges made by the opposition are baseless,” he said.
On NPP being branded as a “B” team of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Nongstoin legislator said that the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government consists of many parties.
He said that the MDA government has brought many developmental activities to Nongstoin like road connectivity among others.
Byrsat added that the Nongstoin-Wahkaji-Ranikor, Nongstoin-Rambrai-Kyrshai-Guwahati and Nongstoin to Maweit roads are being constructed by this government.
He also said that water supply has improved, schools and colleges are being constructed.
