NONGPOH:
A 46-year-old man was killed in a road accident on June 10, when his two-wheeler was hit by a dumper carrying stone chips at 9th mile Baridua, Ribhoi, near USTM, opposite to petrol pump.
The deceased has been identified as Shri (L) killing mukhim, a resident of Bara killing under Khanapara PS. The dumper, bearing registration no. NL AA 2145, belongs to Uranus Stone Products, owned by one Ankit Mittal as per reports.
The dumper driver reportedly fled the scene after the accident. The deceased was rushed to Civil Hospital Nongpoh but was declared brought dead.
A large crowd gathered at the spot with some trying to set ablaze the involved dumper. However, the police team, along with the CRPF, managed to douse it off promptly. They also put in efforts to pacify the agitated crowd with the help of local leaders and the headman.
The involved vehicles have been towed to the Police Station for further investigation. The police have registered a case and search for the driver is underway.
