ONGC introduces new drilling technology to extract gas in Tripura

Known as Managed Pressure Drilling (MPD), the technique will help extract gas from difficult geographical formations where conventional methods are futile, the ONGC informed.

Agartala:

Giving a fillip to its gas drilling technology, the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Tripura has introduced a new drilling technique and dug up three new gas wells in the West and Sepahijala districts of the state.

Known as Managed Pressure Drilling (MPD), the technique will help extract gas from difficult geographical formations where conventional methods are futile.

“We have successfully drilled three new wells by introducing a new technology called MPD. Now, we will test these well,” said Tarun Malik, asset manager of ONGC Tripura, while flagging off a cycle rally on Annual ONGC Saksham Cyclothon, on April 17.

He further said that from now on, the government-run oil and gas explorer and producer will use the technology for more drilling to extract gas in other areas of the state as well.

“Right now, our Tripura asset is a gas-based asset. But no one can guarantee the discovery of oil. We hope that in the coming days, we will successfully extract oil too from different parts of the state,” he said.
