Only Khasi CM can fulfil ILP, 8th Schedule, says HYC

Roy Kupar Synrem noted the importance of a responsible representative to restore the dignity of the Khasi-Jaintia community, which is one of the aims of the Rai Eh Daw campaign.

NONGSTOIN:

The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC), West Khasi Hills District, today held an event to promote clean and responsible politics under the banner of its Rai Eh Daw Campaign ahead of the February 27 Assembly elections.

The HYC took out a car rally from Nongsohpian village, which culminated at Ladweitang, Nongstoin, where a public meeting was held.

The campaign was attended by the top brass of HYC, including president Robert June Kharjahrin, general secretary Roy Kupar Synrem and vice president Donbok Kharlyngdoh, among others.

Synrem noted the importance of a responsible representative to restore the dignity of the Khasi-Jaintia community, which is one of the aims of the Rai Eh Daw campaign.

He further claimed that development should accompany proper legislation to preserve the community. He said the HYC is forced to demand the Inner-Line Permit (ILP) after every election, and this makes it pertinent to choose a leader who can fulfil this demand.

Garos vs Khasi-Jaintia

Kharjahrinsaid that the ILP, inclusion of Khasi to the 8th schedule and an employment reservation policy would never happen until the people elect a Khasi chief minister.

He accused partiality toward Garos in reservation of employment, provision of schemes, and in terms of voting percentages between the three dominant ethnic groups. Kharjahrin promised to raise these issues on behalf of the HYC.

“Every citizen has a right to choose their representatives freely, and we are here just to remind you about the issues that our people have faced during the past five years,” he said.

Kharjahrin also attacked the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance on its decision to allow the establishment of casinos in the state, the alleged misuse of Covid-19 funds and irregularities in implementing government projects.
