SHILLONG:

President of Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) Vincent Pala on January 13 expressed confidence that the people of the state still trust the Congress.

Speaking to the press, he said, “It is written on the wall what is Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) and National People’s Party (NPP)? The Congress works as per the culture of people, we are not aggressive. The people trust the Congress that is why we do not give much publicity compared to them.”

Stating that coal mining is an issue as almost all people depend on coal mining directly and indirectly, he said that coal mining is open for those in the “high-level” and alleged that sand mining, limestone mining and coal mining are open once money is given.

Asserting that corruption has crept into betelnut, supari, etc., businesses, he said, “Harassment to the farmers and miners has increased a lot. I do not think the people will trust them (the government).”

About Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), he said, “What they spoke in the Parliament, that is enough, Congress when it comes back to power will withdraw the CAA. The AICC was very clear on this.”

He also took a dig at the BJP for being good in drama, propaganda, and advertisement but not when it comes to having enough candidates.
