Pathetic condition of Tura Zoo, carcass of deer lies inside cage

Visitors to the zoo were shocked to find no zoo keepers tending to the animals inside the cages and many of the endangered animals have disappeared.

TURA:

Shocking images of the condition of Tura Zoo inside Nehru Park have emerged with animals abandoned to care and the carcass of a barking deer decomposing inside its cage on March 27.

Visitors to the zoo were shocked to find no zoo keepers tending to the animals inside the cages and many of the endangered animals have disappeared.

Despite the hot humid weather, drinking water was not found to be placed inside the cages of the animals and this was most visible from the cage where a lone jackal remained.

With its sole partner lying dead and unclaimed inside the cage, the other barking deer was seen taking shelter on the other side of the cage.

“It looks like the caretakers are not providing water to the animals because the cages are dry,” said a visitor to the Zoo while speaking to The Meghalayan.

A majority of the animal cages were found totally abandoned and damaged with fences torn down.

Cages that use to house the endangered beer, the turtles were found empty while the only jackal inside its enclosure could be seen without any drinking water provided to it.

Piles of rotting tree leaves covered most of the rooftops of cages blocking sunshine.

The zoo located at Nehru Park, outside of Tura town, is usually thriving with visitors during holidays but lack of care to it could soon turn visitors away.
