Paul questions AITC’s moral right to question MDA

UDP leader cites Bible to say, `Let him who is without sin cast the first stone’

SHILLONG:

UDP leader Paul Lyngdoh on September 28 took to the Bible to question the opposition All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) if it had the moral authority to cast the first stone at the National People’s Party-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government.

Lyngdoh spoke out after the AITC’s daily attacks on the government to a point in the Bible which quoted Jesus saying “Let him who is without sin cast the first stone”.

His statement also came a day after AITC national spokesperson Saket Gokhale dared the Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma, to nominate a minister for a public debate on the alleged misgovernance by the MDA government.

“Anybody has got the right to say anything but does he have the moral authority, the moral high ground to cast that first stone so that is a question you may ask the particular gentleman to respond to,” Lyngdoh told reporters.

The Jaiaw MDC said that he is not saying that MDA is a “band of angels” as it has also failed on several fronts.

“I am not saying the MDA is a band of angels, certainly not, there are several areas of failures, several areas where they have not been able to live up to the expectations, the level of corruption is high but when it comes to who reacted I come back to the question do you have the moral upper ground to cast the first stone and say that hey, you are a sinner,” he said.

AITC became the opposition party in the assembly after 12 former Congress legislators joined its fold last year.
