Lyngdoh asserted that as Health Minister, she has a duty to advice the people to stay away from certain types of food where there is going to be harm done to the people.

SHILLONG:

Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh, on June 20, informed that the people should not mistrust the government when it cautions the public on meat and fish consumption, as the advisories issued by the government is in public interest.

“The government will not go against the businesses of the people. We are not anti-people, but if it is not good for you in the event of a possibility of an outbreak that can create huge health issues then please listen to us,” Lyngdoh told media persons.

Lyngdoh asserted that as Health Minister, she has a duty to advice the people to stay away from certain types of food where there is going to be harm done to the people.

The health minister also urged the fish traders and sellers to go for local fish produced in the state, saying, “Formalin is not used on local products. Why don’t the fish vendors look for this local fish available in market.”

Lyngdoh also informed that the line departments are issuing certifications if meat and fish are fit for consumption from a certain market place.

“Certifications now are also being given by line departments, and if there are certifications given that meat or fish that is being sold in the market is safe for consumption, then we have no problem,” Lyngdoh said.
