SHILLONG:

Former legislator and Congress candidate Pynshngain N Syiem on February 7 said that during his campaign for the February 27 election he will take up the issues of non-existent drainage system in the constituency, dearth of good footpaths, insufficient water supply, lack of sports infrastructure.

When asked if it would be easy for him to unseat five-time sitting legislator AL Hek, Syiem said. “There is nothing easy. But we will have to work very hard along with the people and my supporters.”

Syiem, who is also the Khasi Hill Autonomous District Council (KHADC) member from Mawkhar-Pynthorumkhrah seat, said that the people will vote for him since there has been no development.

“I think people will vote for me for the single agenda of development,” he said.

He said that currently, the state needs good legislators who understand how to make policies since the state’s growth depends on policy and law making.

Syiem said that the Congress candidates have potential and he hoped that they will win the upcoming assembly polls so that Meghalaya can progress.

The Congress candidate also said that the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government has failed on all fronts especially, the border issue with Assam, financial position of the state, law and order and other issues.

Syiem also said that to promise schemes like Women Empowerment and Meghalaya Youth Empowerment the Trinamool Congress without knowing how many seats it will win is not easy.
