Police have apprehended a youth responsible for allegedly torturing a girl inside his car at Rangmalgre area under the Chianding police station of East Garo Hills district on June 27 evening.
In this regard, a cognizable case has been registered at Williamnagar Women Police Station and matter is under investigation.
Police has also appealed to all citizens not to circulate the said link further on social media platform to ensure and protect the privacy of the victim.
It may be mentioned that a video had earlier gone viral in which the youth was seen gagging the girl with duct tape inside his car.
Villagers intercepted the vehicle parked at an isolated stretch of the road after hearing the girl scream.
They accosted the youth and when questioned, he alleged that the girl had betrayed him after being in a relationship for over three years.
The villagers managed to rescue the girl and hand her over to the police, while the accused fled in his vehicle.
