Police looking at drones to decongest traffic

Informing about this, Director General of Police (DGP) LR Bishnoi said a team of traffic police personnel were being trained after which procurement of drones will start.

SHILLONG:

In a major move aimed at improving traffic management in the bustling state capital, Meghalaya Police will soon submit a proposal to procure drone technology to tackle traffic congestion.

Informing about this, Director General of Police (DGP) LR Bishnoi said a team of traffic police personnel were being trained after which procurement of drones will start.

“Chief minister has held a meeting regarding the traffic congestion problem particularly in Shillong town and he has suggested the use of drones, so that we can monitor the congestion points,” Bishnoi told reporters on Monday.

“Today I am sending a team of traffic officers to the secretariat where the drone is already functioning and they will try to understand how we can use that for monitoring the traffic congestion points.”

“Little bit training is required and once they are through , we will start using it,” he said.
